Learn About…
TEENS IN ACTION
provides free programs to teens,
ages 12 – 21, living in low-income apartment communities or attending
low-performing DISD schools. Teens in Action provides these youth with
high-adventure group activities that teach them to make good decisions
and develop positive peer relationships.
Primarily funded
through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Teens in Action offers
workforce development programs that provide job skills training,
character development and employment
opportunities to at-risk youth.
During the
regular school year, this program allows members to learn valuable job
skills through real-world experiences (job shadowing, interning,
college visits, etc.). In the summer, this program also provides many
of these teens with employment opportunities through
Camp Fire USA
and its community partners.
In 2003, this
program was awarded a “Certificate of Appreciation” from the
Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) for its work in these
communities.

Through Teens in Action there is
also an Alternative Education program, which
provides supervision, educational support, counseling and other services to
youth, ages 10 to 17, referred by local justice authorities.
