A significant number of Dallas County school-age children are faced with multiple disadvantages that impact their ability to survive and thrive. The combined effects of poverty, crime, lack of parental involvement and the lack of afterschool programs result in poor school performance and educational attainment. Far too many of these children are underachieving in the classroom and will ultimately drop out of school. That places them at serious risk of perpetuating the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
Every day over 100,000 children and youth in the Dallas area are home alone during the afterschool and summer hours.
With your support, Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council will provide 1,500 of these children, youth and their families with fun, enriching activities in a safe encouraging environment to help them reach their dreams and succeed in life-despite the odds against them.
Volunteers are needed to work with youth who need the positive guidance of a positive role model. Any commitment of your time will make a significant impact on a child’s life.
