Fire Sponsors 21st Century Grant Award Presentation
(August 7, 2001)(Dallas, TX) � Camp Fire USA, one
of the city�s leading youth development organizations, is collaborating with
four other organizations in support of the 21st Century Community
Learning Center�s award presentation. The presentation will be on August 23,
from 3:00-4:00 pm, at the Lakewest Family YMCA in Dallas, TX.
The 21st Century Grant program will award
$12.2 million in grants to 28 schools over three years. This includes one high
school, five middle schools and twenty-two elementary schools in the DISD.
The 21st Century Grant Award Presentation
will officially present the schools with the following four grants: Las Luses en
la Noche (The Lights at Night); Communities of Light; Beacons in the Community;
and The New Neighborhood. The primary goal of these grants is to help recipients
provide a safe place for students of working parents during non-school hours.
During the 2001-2002 school year, 10,000 such
students will be served by the 21st Century Community Learning
Centers. The grants are also intended to increase student achievement in
language arts, mathematics and science. Additionally, they shall provide more
programs for parents, families, and community members in the 21st
Century sites.
Camp Fire USA is proud to support this program, which
will help the organization achieve its mission of building caring, confident
youth and future leaders.
