Our Programs
Learn About Our…
Kids Club
Kids Clubs provide
safe, supportive after-school care for
at-risk children ages 5-12 in low-income apartment communities.
Activities occur in a safe, structured environment where children
develop friendships, personal resilience, self-respect, intellectual
curiosity, conflict resolution skills, healthy eating habits, reading
and math skills and a life-long love of learning. Participants also
develop the skills needed to remain drug-free and gang-free. An integral
part of this program is our Community Family Clubs which engage families
at these sites in pot-luck dinners, fun outings, getting to know their
neighbors and special performances by their kids.
Community Family
Club
Community Family Club is a family-focused program that encourages
parents to participate in small group activities with their children
each month. Based around a potluck meal, this program develops skills in
parenting, conflict resolution, and family communication. This program
creates a stable network of support for children and family members.
Teens in Action
Teens in Action
provides youth
ages 12-18, living in low-income neighborhoods, opportunities to improve
the communities in which they live. Service projects challenge them to
learn new skills and provide leadership in ways they never thought
possible. Activities include food drives for Central Dallas Ministries,
visits to area nursing homes and field trips to area colleges, museums
and sporting events. The dominant goal of this program is to keep teens
in school and to provide alternatives to violence, gangs, and drugs that
are so prevalent in these neighborhoods.
Employment Program
The Employment Program helps high-risk young adults, ages 18-21, overcome
multiple barriers to obtaining and maintaining employment. Services
include training in the job search process, resume writing,
interviewing, appropriate workplace behaviors and job retention skills.
Each client is assisted in identifying career goals, possible barriers,
and then provided the tools to overcome those barriers. Childcare is
available to teen parents on a limited basis.
Camping and
Outdoor Education
The Camping
program provides children and teens of all ages a rare camping experience. Camp
Ellowi, in the Cedar Hill area of Dallas County, is an outdoor classroom where
youth develop leadership skills, learn to work with others, develop an
appreciation of nature, set goals and solve problems. Recreational activities
include hiking, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, swimming and canoeing.
