Kids Club Success Story

January
March, 2003

Mrs.
Amy Walker
has worked for Camp Fire USA Lone Star Councils
Kids Club
program at Villages of Timberleaf Apartments since June 2002. As a
program specialist she shows amazing dedication and an unrelenting
commitment to the children she serves everyday in Camp Fires
after-school program.

“Amy
is a spirited individual who truly cares about bettering the lives of
the children she serves through Camp Fire USA, says Tim James,
executive director of the Lone Star Council. Through Amys
leadership skills and caring personality, the children learn the
importance of becoming caring, confident youth and future leaders.

Kids
Club is a free, after-school youth development program offered to
children ages 5 18 living in low-income communities. Children in
these communities use the program from 3 p.m. 6 p.m. on weekdays on
a drop-in basis. Previously to Amy joining the staff at Villages of
Timberleaf, about 15 children would attend the Kids Club program daily.
Currently, about 30 children attend the program daily. This increase in
attendance is due to Amys enthusiasm and encouraging attitude.

Amira, a second grader, was failing all of her classes when she began
attending the Kids Club program at Villages of Timberleaf. However, with
tutoring and encouragement from Amy, she is now receiving all Bs and
Cs in her classes. This has helped her self-confidence, which has
enabled her to become more actively involved in her activities outside
of school. Amira’s family is very impressed with her development, and
with Camp Fire USA’s positive influence on her life.

Amira is a very talented child, says Amy. She just needs a push
in the right direction. I believe in Camp Fire and know that I can make
a difference in the lives of the children I serve.

Camp Fire USA is honored to have a devoted and outstanding employee like
Amy working with wonderful children like Amira!
