Tim
James

Executive
Director

Since
1986, Tim James has served as the executive director of Camp Fire USA Lone Star
Council. During this time, he has helped the council to expand its service to
thousands of at-risk youth. Thanks to his leadership, the council now offers
programs that directly address the most critical issues facing the children and
youth of Dallas.

Tim
has designed these programs to counter specific issues facing youth who live in
low-income communities: involvement in gangs, truancy, delinquent behavior,
skills deficiency and lack of adult mentors. Thanks to his dedication, Camp Fire
USA is able to provide these programs at no cost to over 8,000 children and
their families each year.

Currently,
Tim is President of the Association of United Way Agency Executives. Previously,
he chaired the Junior High Involvement Task Group, which was responsible for the
development of after-school programming for youth in the Richardson Independent
School District. Additionally, he has also served as chair for the Greater
Dallas Collaboration of Youth and has served on the board of directors of the
Dallas Commission on Children and Youth.

Prior
to his work at Camp Fire, Tim worked for the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, where
he directed shelter and counseling programs for runaway youth and their
families. This included working for the Casa Shelter and the Promise House, a
group that was founded with his support.

Tim is the father of two sons,
Travis, 20, and Micah, 18. After 11 years as a single parent, an experience that
had a profound impact on his view of youth services, Tim married Kirsten Brandt,
also a youth agency director, in the fall of 1998. They are now the proud
parents of twins, Brandt and Kaitlin, born in August of 2004.
