TELL KIDS THEY ARE
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
Absolutely Incredible Kid Day on
March 18, 2004
DALLAS
March 18, 2004,
marks Camp Fire USAs eighth annual Absolutely
Incredible Kid Day. This national
letter-writing campaign to honor children has been deemed an
overwhelming success by child care experts, educators,
celebrities, leaders, parents and kids everywhere.
Research shows that simple words of encouragement and
compassion can make a positive difference in a child’s life.
Putting those words into a letter allows the recipient to
hang onto those encouraging words, and to return to them for
inspiration and guidance. Such letters will often stay with
children throughout their lives, until they are adults
writing letters to their own children.
Americas greatest resource is its children, said Tim
James, Executive Director, Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council.
On Absolutely Incredible Kid Day, Camp Fire USA
encourages all adults to tell kids how valuable and
absolutely incredible they are.
Absolutely Incredible Kid Day,
celebrated annually on the third Thursday in March
March 18, 2004
is Camp Fire USA’s national call to action asking adults
to write letters of love and support to youth. Not only are
adults encouraged to write letters to their own children,
relatives and neighbors, but even to kids whom they don’t
know. This national campaign to honor children has been
recognized as an event to inspire adult-to-child
interaction.
“Personally, I know so many people who have been touched by
this day,” said James. “Its so easy to write a letter, but
it can be such a powerful and positive force in a child’s
life. And it’s also an extremely rewarding and emotional
experience for the letter writer, too!”
Absolutely Incredible Kid Day
has touched more than 600 million people in the seven years
since its inception. Its supporters include national figures
such as celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Jim Carrey;
politicians George W. Bush and “Kit” Bond; family
authorities Stephen Covey and Sylvia Rimm, Ph.D.; sports
heroes Jerry Rice and Jeff Gordon; and local figures such as
Mayor Laura Miller, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson,
state Rep. Tony Goolsby and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
In honor of the eighth annual Absolutely Incredible Kid
Day, Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council is establishing a
goal to deliver letters to each of the 4,000 local boys and
girls involved in its after-school programs each year. These
programs, Kids Club and 21st
Century Community Learning Center, serve children in
low-income apartment communities and low-performing schools
throughout Dallas. These programs have recently been awarded
the following honors:

Named the official provider of after-school programs for
the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD)

Winner of the 2002 Award for Excellence in Human Service
Programming from the Community Council of Greater
Dallas

Named the 361st Point of Light by President
Bush in 1991
To help the Lone Star Council reach its goal, please write a
letter to a Camp Fire youth and mail it to Camp Fire USA
Lone Star Council at 4411 Skillman, Dallas, Texas 75206.
Please also send Camp Fire copies of any Absolutely
Incredible Kid Day letters that you write to the
incredible children in your lives. Your letters may be
posted on Camp Fires Web site,
www.campfireusadallas.org/aik.
Nationally, Camp Fire USAs goal of Absolutely Incredible
Kid Day is to deliver a letter into the hands of every
child in the country. It can be left on a pillow, put in the
mail, stuck in a lunch box, sent by e-mail, read over the
phone or read in person. Camp Fire USA wants everyone
parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, neighbors,
educators, mentors and more! to participate in this
program.
Its a simple way to change a childs life, and the most it
can cost is the price of a stamp, said James. I hope that
everyone in Dallas will help Camp Fire USA to celebrate
America’s children by writing a letter for
Absolutely Incredible Kid Day.
Serving Dallas since 1913, Camp Fire USA provides youth
development programs at little to no cost to over 7,000
low-income youth and their families each year. For more
