Our programs are designed to reach kids and young adults living in poverty and at great risk of academic failure, substance abuse, gangs, violence and dropping out of school. In total 95% of our participants qualify for free lunches and 81% are minorities.
ALL of our services are free and almost exclusively site-based at low-income apartment communities removing the most common barriers for particitipation – cost and transportation.
Our programs help kids and young adults develop personal resilience, intellectual curiosity and social values in a safe environment. Camp Fire emphasizes the importance of completing high school, pursuing a college degree, and seeking employment as a means of achieving personal aspirations and breaking the inter-generational cycle of poverty. Children do well when their families do well; therefore family strengthening is a cornerstone of our programs.
