CCLC Success Story
April
June, 2002
Thanks to the
21st Century Community Learning Center
(CCLC) at Louise Wolff
Kahn Elementary, Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council is touching the lives of dozens of families. Through the
Community Family Club program at this school, students and their families are brought together throughout the year for shared meals and fun activities. This has been a wonderful experience for many of the participants — but especially for the families of two brothers.
The two Ibarra families live next door to each other in an apartment community just across the street from Louise Wolff Kahn Elementary, where Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council has launched its most successful Community Family Club.
Mario and Rogelio Ibarra joined the club while taking English-as-a-Second Language through the programs that Camp Fire USA has set up at the school through the 21st
CCLC. The Community Family Club program has not only brought Rogelio Ibarra, his wife and three children closer to Mario Ibarra, his two daughters and son, but it has enabled them all to share their kindness and loving spirits with the rest of the community.
Since joining the club in April 2002, they families have never missed a single meeting or field trip. They are always the first to participate in activities at meetings. As such a close family, they recognize the importance of involving the entire family unit in educational youth development activities.
They share that value with new families who join the club. They are always warm and
welcoming to the other children and adults, especially to non-traditional
families, such as single-parent homes.
Each of the Ibarras helps to create a family for the other members of the club. For those children who do not see their fathers often, the brothers step in to provide the children with a male role-model.
Some of the most active members in the club, the Ibarras have helped to make this club the largest and most successful Community Family Club in the Lone Star Council.
Setting a wonderful example for other families, the Ibarras are leaders in their community and blessings to Camp Fire USA.
