(May 22, 2002)(Dallas, TX)
As part of its 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC)
summer programs, Camp Fire USA is offering free empowerment workshops,
personal development classes and assertiveness training to young women,
ages 14 17, in the Oak Cliff Area.

 The goal of the program
is to empower young girls as they journey towards adulthood, says Yolanda
Santos, program director for Camp Fire USAs 21st CCLC program.
We want to teach these ladies how to deal with peer pressure, to avoid teen
pregnancy and to pursue higher education.

 The program, Creating
Balance : From Girl to Woman, will concentrate on teaching young women to build
self-esteem, to create positive peer relationships and to understand their role
in the community. Open to the public every Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to
12:00 p.m. at Sunset High School, 2120 W. Jefferson Ave., this program will be
offered to participants at no cost.

We really want to get the
entire community involved, says Maribel Estrada, the area coordinator who
will be in charge of the program. This is a great opportunity for these girls
to get advice from other women who have successfully made this difficult
journey.

Activities
will include hearing from guest speakers, participating in group activities and
taking part in round-table discussions. Topics will include gender roles, career
paths and personal skills such as communication, assertiveness and
self-assessment. For more information, contact Maribel Estrada at 214 755 0725 .
