Levels
Learn About…
STARFLIGHT
– Kindergarten through Second grade
Children
learn responsibility, decision making and other valuable skills
through a variety of projects centered around five subject areas
called “Trails.” They include Trail to the Great
Outdoors, Trail to Creative Living, Trail to Me, My Family, My
Community, Trail to Helping Others, and Trail to New Knowledge and
Skills. Children participate in projects focusing on nature and
the outdoors, safety, science, health, community service, family,
art, music and drama.
Children
learn while working together and having fun. All projects are
designed to fit the abilities and interests of this age level.
Recognition is an important component of the Starflight program.
Children receive emblems when a project is completed.
ADVENTURE
– Third through Fifth grade
Children
complete a variety of activities centered around five subject
areas or “Trails.” They include Trail to the Great
Outdoors, Trail to Creative Living, Trail to Me, My Family, My
Community, Trail to Helping Others, and Trail to New Knowledge and
Skills. On each trail there are many exciting activities and
topics. Adventure members can choose activities to do with their
clubs, families or by themselves.
Adventure
members learn to work and play together, develop planning and
decision-making skills, as well as skills related to their
individual interests. Recognition in the form of beads and emblems
is given after a project or activity is completed, which helps
build self-esteem and pride.
DISCOVERY
– Sixth through Eighth grade
Youth
explore how to act as a member of a family, school, church,
neighborhood, team, or other group. In Discover Yourself, youth
explore who they are, who they want to be; they plan for the
present and prepare for the future. In Discover Community, youth
have the opportunity to learn how communities work and how as
individuals they can affect change in their communities. Torch
Bearer projects also provide youth an opportunity to explore areas
of interest specific to them or to their club.
HORIZON
– Ninth through Twelfth grade
At this
club level, young persons are encouraged to participate in the
activities as individual members or with other club members. As
such, it is different for each person. Participants are given the
opportunity to create their own horizon and to build their own
future. “Highlight” activities are designed to examine
ideas, values, morals and experiences. Four “Reflection”
projects provide focus for youth on self, choices and decisions,
future goals and planning and self-reliance skills.
