Camp
Fire USA United 21st Century Learning Center
with
Light on Afterschool Program
(August 13, 2001)(Dallas, TX)
Following close on the heels of its national identity transformation, Camp Fire
USAs Lone Star Council will soon announce its plans to sponsor city-wide
events in celebration of the national Lights on Afterschool program. The
announcement will come on August 23rd, when Camp Fire USA will join
several other local organizations in support of 21st Century Learning
Centers awards presentation.
Sponsored by the Afterschool
Alliance, Lights on Afterschool is designed to increase public support for
the critical issue of after-school programs for young people. The nationwide
celebration is set to occur on October 11, with rallies in communities across
the country.
Camp Fire USA, whose Kids
Club program has offered school-age children free activities during non-school
hours since 1987, is planning to sponsor special events at selected apartment
communities where Kids Club programs have been on-site for a number of years.
Yolanda Santos, Program
Director for Camp Fire USA, will also integrate its 21st Century
Learning Center sites into the celebrations. In so doing, Camp Fire USA will
unite two of its most important programs in a celebration of their ability to
keep young people safe while providing them with substantive, structured,
effective programming outside school.
