Since
our founding in 1913, Camp Fire USA Lone
Star Councilhas successfully worked to achieve its mission
of building caring, confident youth and future
leaders. The Lone Star Council is a non-profit
youth development agency and a leader in providing
innovative programs to the Greater Dallas community.
Over the
years, our Lone Star Council has evolved to meet the
changing needs of children and youth and the
changing demographics of the Dallas Metroplex.
Today, we are the premier provider of
out-of-school time programs in low-income apartment
communities. We provide FREE afterschool,
summer and workforce development programs in Dallas, Collin and southern
Denton counties to approximately 1,500 at-risk
youth and their families each year.
Core
programs include: Kids Club (ages 6-12);
Teens in Action (ages 13-17); Employment
(Job Readiness and Placement) (ages 18-21);
Camping and Environmental Education (ages 6-17).
Our programs ensure that youth have multiple
opportunities to learn and grow socially as well as
academically, preparing them for the
responsibilities of model citizen
ship and
leadership.
Programs are designed to reach children and teens
living in poverty and at the greatest risk of
academic failure, substance abuse, gangs, violence
and dropping out of school. In total, 95% of
our clients qualify for free lunches; 89% are
minorities (68% African American, 21% Hispanic).
